Purpose of Position:
Provide skilled maintenance and complex repair work on the remote village clinics, hospital site, campus grounds, and limited medical and non-medical equipment.
Maintenance Tech is equal to and provides the same function as the deffinition of Maintence Engineer as described in the NFPA and NSHC policies Procedures or Plans.
Uphold the organization's vision, mission, and corporate values. Demonstrate understanding of and compliance with organization's policies, procedures, code of conduct and work rules.
Essential Functions:
Perform high level preventive and corrective maintenance on physical plant equipment such as HVAC systems, electrical and plumbing systems, high and low pressure oil fired water and steam boilers and water heating systems; Report equipment and structural problems and needed equipment or supplies to immediate supervisor
Test equipment using safety analyzer, volt meters, ohm meters, amp meters and special hand tools
Inspect, calibrate, adjust, clean and lubricate mechanical and electrical controls, valves, gauges, timing devices and meters; Provide installation and repair services on complex and major systems throughout the facility as indicated by appropriate logs and work orders
Troubleshoot equipment issues and develop correction plans
Travel to village clinics to perform routine maintenance on equipment, troubleshoot and coordinate solutions between the Nome-based operations and the villages
Train and mentor junior level engineers and technicians on complex preventive maintenance and repair work
Perform other duties as assigned

Maintenance Technician I (Grade 7)
1 year working in maintenance
High School Diploma
Valid AK Driver's License

All requirements of Maintenance Engineer I
5 years' experience
Boiler Operator Class III
HAZWOPER Certification
Maintenance Technician III (Grade 9)
All requirements of Maintenance Engineer II
10 years' experience
EPA 608 Certification
Maintenance Technician IV (Grade 10)
All requirements of Maintenance Engineer III
10 years' experience
2 of these years' experience to NSHC specific systems (or can demonstrate this ability from other healthcare experience)
Able to fill in leadership functions when Manager of Facilities is unavailable
Physical Requirements:

Working Conditions:
Work is conducted in an of office environment and in a standard clinical environment to include exposure to latex, biohazard or other harmful substances
Work is sometimes in confined spaces and in areas of high noise and/or high/low temperatures
Incumbent works with common chemicals and will be exposed to associated hazards typically found in maintenance shops
Seldom travel may be required (up 25% to of the time)
Travel is required via large aircraft
Travel is required via small (less than 16 passenger) aircraft
