Job Title: Maintenance Worker 2
Department: Environmental Services
Location: Gouverneur Hospital
Hours Per Week: 40 (With one week a month on call rotation)
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7 am to 3:30 pm

SUMMARY:

Knowledge and ability to perform a variety of duties relating to the daily operations of the Maintenance Department, using the guidelines and procedures of the Hospital as follows: performing and logging of all maintenance, all mechanical, and electrical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturers specifications. Maintain DNV requirements for fire Drills and Life safety inspections. Work in all areas of facility and clinics as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Departmental Operations

  • Performs building repairs (e.g., patching/painting walls) and general grounds keeping.

  • Manages day-to-day maintenance office tasks including phones, filing, tracking, and monitoring.

  • Maintains inventory of tools and assists with scheduling maintenance staff.

  • Completes and records scheduled preventative maintenance.

  • Assists with courier duties and other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Tool/Equipment/Machinery Use

  • Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and measuring devices.

  • Operates and maintains machinery such as forklifts, pallet lifts, tractors, snow removal, and furniture-moving equipment.

Quality Improvement

  • Supports quality improvement initiatives by contributing to data collection and reporting efforts.

Safety

  • Follows all safety protocols, uses personal protective equipment (PPE), and performs hazard assessments.

  • Implements lockout/tagout procedures and maintains safe, clutter-free work environments.

  • Uses proper signage and reports unsafe conditions promptly.

Complexity of Work

  • Applies regulatory standards to maintenance tasks to ensure compliance.

  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.

  • Collaborates effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Possess and maintain a New York Drivers License and have a clean driving record that is acceptable to the organizations insurer for coverage to drive hospital

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, squatting, moving, minimal lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 75 pounds. Occasional need to operate hand tools, power tools, or machinery. Ability to read and interpret written documents. Ability to work in varying conditions and in cramped or confided spaces and vehicles.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Certification in two or more maintenance/construction trades

  • Three years of general maintenance experience in a facility maintenance environment; Knowledge of methods used in facility maintenance including basic knowledge of the following trades: mechanical/HVAC systems, electrical/utility systems, plumbing, carpentry/construction, grounds keeping.

  • Intermediate understanding of standard practices and tools used in the maintenance and repair of building facilities; safety practices and procedures related to the building trades; basic math to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

PAY RANGE:

$22.75 - $32.53

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
