Job Summary:
The Automation Systems & Robotics Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for growing & developing the team in ensuring maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of all automated material handling systems within the distribution center, including robotic picking solutions (e.g., AutoStore), conveyors, sortation systems, and ancillary equipment. This position ensures the mechanical and technical reliability of automation assets to support efficient, accurate, and safe operations.
The ASRM Supervisor performs or ensure hands-on repairs, preventive maintenance, system calibrations, and software/hardware diagnostics while partnering with vendors and internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in equipment performance and uptime.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform daily maintenance and repairs on AutoStore robots, grid systems, conveyors, and other automated equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues with minimal downtime.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring failures.
System Optimization
- Monitor system performance data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
- Adjust system settings and calibrations to optimize throughput and accuracy.
- Collaborate with IT and operations teams to integrate new automation solutions or software updates.
Preventive Maintenance
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and operational needs.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts usage, and repairs in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
- Ensure all automated systems comply with safety and quality standards.
Vendor & Technical Support
- Act as the primary liaison to automation equipment vendors and technical support teams.
- Coordinate warranty claims, service contracts, and parts ordering as needed.
Training & Safety
- Train maintenance technicians and operators on basic troubleshooting and safe operation of automation systems.
- Promote and enforce adherence to safety policies and lockout/tagout procedures during maintenance activities.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- General knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire systems
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must have worked previously with facilities work order processing application
- General knowledge of maintenance/construction trade & regulations, blueprints, schematic drawings.
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Education & Experience
- Associate degree or higher in Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.
- 35 years of experience maintaining automated systems and robotics in a distribution, fulfillment, or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with AutoStore or similar robotic picking solutions highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.
- Proficient with PLC troubleshooting, sensors, servos, and VFDs.
- Familiarity with WMS/WCS interfaces and system-level diagnostics.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate across teams.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently or in a team environment.
Certifications (Preferred)
- OSHA safety certifications.
- OEM-specific training (AutoStore, KUKA, Dematic, etc.).
- Electrical or mechanical journeyman license (where applicable).
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, etc. when evaluating store needs and resolutions.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
