ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Administers and supervises the activities and personnel of the custodial staff.
  • Conducts building maintenance to include plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work on air conditioning/heating units and exhaust fans.
  • Performs landscaping and irrigation work.
  • Performs custodial duties at the facilities to include, mopping, dusting, cleaning, vacuuming and stripping, waxing, and buffing of floors.
  • Completes maintenance on machines to include the cardio and weight equipment and sound, television, and PA systems.
  • Picks up building supplies.
  • Maintains SDS sheets and SDS book.
  • Operates a floor machine and buffer.
  • Ensures fire extinguishers are in working order.
  • Repairs plumbing fixtures.
  • Picks up litter and sweeps sidewalks and parking lot, removes trash and delivers trash cans.
  • Serves as back up to co-workers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years' experience performing maintenance and custodial work.
  • One-year experience in supervision.
  • Any combination of education and experience totaling two years may be considered.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver's License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of cleaning and custodial practices and building maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safety practices involved in custodial and maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to operate equipment and machines used in cleaning and building maintenance.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions.
  • Ability to read.
  • Ability to operate a buffer.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting.
  • Ability to organize projects, manage work crews, and motivate employees.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 30 pounds of force to move objects and the following physical abilities: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed indoors with some outside work. Employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and cold or inclement weather.
