Job Description:Mountain Gateway Community College ( MGCC ) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge. Mountain Gateway Community College is seeking a reliable and skilled Facilities Maintenance Worker to join our team on a part-time basis. This position offers a flexible schedule of approximately 20 hours per week, with hours scheduled based on the needs of the college.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on college equipment and facilities
  • Troubleshoot electrical and plumbing issues to ensure operational efficiency
  • Operate small equipment such as tractors, skid steers, and mowing machinery
  • Use hand tools effectively for various maintenance tasks
  • Assist with other maintenance-related duties as needed to support college operations
  • Provide general grounds maintenance, including mowing lawns and trimming weeds
  • Other duties as assigned


Special Assignments:

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications:
Qualifications:

  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and plumbing systems
  • Proficient in operating small machinery and equipment
  • Good working knowledge of hand tools and safety procedures
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Flexible schedule based on college needs
