Supervisor of Maintenance I (DPW- Traffic Engineering) ( Provisional)

This is supervisory work involving responsibility for assigning and directing maintenance and repair tasks. The work is usually performed under general supervision and in accordance with general practices and objectives and is subject to review of the immediate superior who makes periodic inspections. Supervision is exercised over a number of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled subordinates.Supervises the maintenance and repair of sidewalks piers, retaining walls, wooden bridges and stairways;

Supervises necessary concrete work, painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, plastering, and glazing;

Oversees repairs to buildings;

Supervises the maintenance of grounds and parks;

Directs the erection and dismantling of athletic equipment;

Coordinates activities and work order files for extermination tasks;

Assigns personnel, trucks, and equipment to necessary maintenance work;

Requisitions materials and supplies;

  • maintains inventory records;

Maintains time records and submits periodic reports;

Makes periodic inspections of buildings and grounds to determine conditions in need of repair;

Personally performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work;Promotional

Continuous and permanent status in any city department as a General Mechanic, Maintenance Assistant or a position in one of the skilled trades at the skilled craft worker level for one year.

Special Requirement

Possession of a current NYS Drivers License to be presented at time of appointment and maintained during employment.

Open Competitive

Candidates must meet one of the following:

(A) Three years of full-time experience in general construction, maintenance or repair work;

OR

(B) Three years of full-time experience in one of the skilled trades at the skilled craft worker level.

Special Requirement

Possession of a current NYS Drivers License to be presented at time of appointment and maintained during employment.Good knowledge of the modern principles, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in general building construction, maintenance and repair;

Ability to supervise the work of others;

Ability to maintain records of completed work;

Mechanical aptitude;

Ability to follow oral and written directions;

Physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.
