The Heavy Commercial Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of heavy-duty commercial vehicles and equipment, including trucks, semis, tractors, and farming equipment. This role ensures all vehicles are operating safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant regulations and company standards. Extensive knowledge and strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, air brake systems, electrical systems, electronic diagnostics, and a commitment to safety and efficiency. Work is performed under the general supervision of the "General Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Perform highly skilled and complex mechanical repairs on both light and heavy trucks.
  • Perform the duties of a mechanic involved in hands-on repairs and maintenance of vehicles.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on heavy commercial vehicles.
  • Ability to engage in heavy manual labor for extended periods, in all types of weather and under various working conditions.
  • Adjust, or repair and replace parts in engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes and other equipment.
  • Adjust or repair hydraulic systems and components.
  • Maintain and instruct others on proper safety procedures.
  • Respond to repair request
  • Perform scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid checks.
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, transmissions, suspension systems, and air brakes.
  • Perform road service on equipment as required.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Investigate complaints and equipment malfunctions.
  • Analyze performance of all types of equipment.
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve vehicle issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards.
  • Respond to roadside service calls and perform emergency repairs when necessary.
  • Collaborate with drivers and operations staff to report and resolve vehicle issues.
  • Recommend improved work methods and procedures, assist in training employees.
Qualifications
  • Experience and knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in maintenance and repair of various types of heavy equipment and other power-driven equipment and tools.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and safety standards.
  • Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Skilled in operations and strong knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, and electronic diagnostics.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic codes.
  • Valid drivers license; CDL preferred or required depending on the role.
  • Ability to lift heavy parts and work in physically demanding environments such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted) bending, standing, repetitive motions, climbing or walking
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively establish good working relationships with other employees.
