Description
The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills, which facilitate non-criminal behavior.
If you desire an exciting career in Criminal Justice, we may have the spot for you! The Department of Corrections is currently seeking a Welder to work in the fast paced, professional environment of the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Supervise maintenance inmates.
Maintenance, repair and fabrication of assorted equipment.
Working on projects and ensuring the safety and security of the facility.
Maintain records and inventory for operations.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of welding, welding technology, or welding fabrication experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education in a related field will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional welding, welding technology, welding fabrication, or a related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
