Position Description:

Full-time. Participates in and assists in a variety of semi-skilled building repair and maintenance tasks; does related work. May be required to perform routine building cleaning. Involves independently performing minor maintenance tasks and occasionally serving as a helper to journeymen maintenance mechanics in more complex operations. May be considered as an apprentice level to the Building Maintenance Mechanic II. Work is usually performed under direct supervision. This position may also be called on to perform routine buildings and grounds custodial work.

Essential Functions:

• Performs minor maintenance tasks independently.
• Helps install and repair wiring systems and electric fixtures.
• May repair windows, doors, floors, walls, and other parts of buildings.
• Helps install and repair general plumbing equipment.
• Cleans and repairs boilers, pumps, heaters, pipe lines, valves and traps.
• Mixes plaster and concrete; assists in laying brick, plastering walls, finishing concrete work.
• May paint interior spaces.
• Snow plowing and removal.
• Use of riding lawn mowers and related equipment.
• Operates trucks, automobiles, air compressors and other motorized equipment.
• Takes part in general grounds maintenance.
• Serves as general handyman performing semi-skilled duties.
• May take part in routine building cleaning.
• Regular attendance.

Qualifications:

Required: Working knowledge of buildings and grounds maintenance and repair practices; ability to follow oral and written directions; manual dexterity; mechanical aptitude; industry. Must possess: good oral and interpersonal/human relations skills and a commitment to providing excellent customer service, manual dexterity, mechanical aptitude.

One year demonstrated experience in either building construction or minor general electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work (wiring a ballast, soldering, etc.); or an equivalent combination of demonstrated training and experience. High School diploma or equivalency diploma. Valid and current drivers license. DMV license check required and must show that there has been no DUI in the last 3 years. In addition, eligible candidates must have no DUI and a violation in the last 5 years and must not have 6 or more points in the last 3 years.

Additional Information:

Salary: $21.29/per hour. Excellent benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, and NYS retirement.
