The position is in South Bend, Indiana. Summary We are seeking a skilled and reliable Building and Maintenance Technician to join our facilities team. The technician will be responsible for ensuring that our buildings, equipment, and grounds are maintained to the highest standards. This role involves performing routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and responding promptly to repair needs across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and general building systems. Job Duties and Responsibilities Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs and safety hazards. Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, electrical panels, lighting, plumbing, and building infrastructure. Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment, machinery, and general fixtures. Respond to emergency maintenance requests to minimize downtime and ensure operational continuity. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment service logs. Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors for specialized repairs or upgrades. Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations. Assist in setting up, moving, or assembling furniture, equipment, and fixtures as needed. Support capital improvement projects, renovations, and facility upgrades. Monitor inventory and order supplies, parts, and tools required for repairs and maintenance. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred. Proven experience in building maintenance, repair, or a related trade (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry). Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team. Basic computer skills for maintenance logs and work order systems. Good physical stamina and ability to lift to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and perform manual tasks. Preferred Skills Certification in HVAC, Electrical, or Plumbing is a plus. OSHA or other safety training certification. Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Work Environment Primarily on-site, involving both indoor and outdoor work. May require evening, weekend, or on-call availability for emergency maintenance. Exposure to loud noises, dust, chemicals, and mechanical equipment.
