Sr Maintenance Person - Parks

JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent, under the guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor, shall be responsible for general maintenance and operation of equipment to accomplish what is normally too difficult to do manually both safely and efficiently.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Note: All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times. All other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or department director.

  1. Operate assigned equipment including, but not limited to, backhoe, mini excavator, stump grinder, dump truck, and bucket truck.

  2. Mow/brush hog assigned parks.

  3. Perform general maintenance or minor repairs on building, playground structures, and aquatics amenities as needed.

  4. Complete routine preventative maintenance on all assigned assets.

  5. Assists in preparing spaces for interment at Oak Cemetery (may include weekends).

  6. Assist in maintenance repairs as needed. These repairs include, but are not limited to, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and concrete/masonry.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Six (6) months of previous experience operating construction related vehicles/heavy equipment
  • One (1) year of previous experience working in landscaping, grounds/lawn maintenance, or similar field
  • CDL-A within nine (9) months of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of previous experience operating construction related vehicles/heavy equipment
  • Three (3) years of previous experience working in landscaping, grounds/lawn maintenance, or similar field

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • The incumbent should possess knowledge of various types of equipment and methods to be used to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards of the work and necessary precautions is required.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are also required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Highly repetitive type of work which requires somewhat diversified physical demands of the employee. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently stand, walk, talk, climb and hear. Occasionally sit, use hands to handle objects, and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent must also stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color, distance and peripheral vision. Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus are also required.

The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Outside working environment, wherein there are extremely disagreeable working conditions most of the time. The incumbent is required to work near moving mechanical parts.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While operating equipment, the noise level can be lout to very loud.
