MAINTENANCE MECHANIC B (CARPENTER) BERKELEY, CA
PURPOSE
This union position performs repairs and modifications to plant and site facilities. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that Plant facilities are in excellent condition, addressing fabrication for any classified spaces in Production areas. This position will also support the painters craft as needed.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs repairs and modifications to plant facilities. This includes preventative maintenance work in production and packaging areas;
- All Maintenance Mech B (CARPENTER) Tasks and Responsibilities, plus:
- Interact with Plant Engineer to provide problem solving expertise on specific Carpenter based jobs;
- Be able to perform all Basic Carpentry functions (as well as in cleanroom environment), Temp Wall assembly/install, HEPA Vac Filter change out;
- Primary focus is on work in classified areas patching any holes in walls; fabricating and installing various plastic panels and pieces to enhance Production practices; participate in job reviews with Production personnel;
- Perform SAP entries per task list or work orders;
- Understands specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required for fabrication;
- Observe all company work and safety procedures;
- Understands specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required for fabrication;
- Keep accurate accounting of time and materials expended on jobs.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma, or GED, plus 1 year experience mechanical maintenance;
- Minimum of one year as a mechanic "B" or equivalent;
- General Carpentry and fabrication knowledge;
- Knowledge of general carpentry;
- Basic hand and machine tools knowledge which includes a variety of machinery from simple to complex nature for fabrication uses;
- Read, write, speak, and comprehend English in order to understand written and verbal instructions, SOPs, etc.;
- Follow directions, written or verbal and be proficient in math;
- Communicates schedule and activity impact to customers, and others as required;
- Acceptable attendance and performance;
- Work weekends, holidays and overtime as required;
- Maintains workshop and various work areas in a safe and efficient condition;
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 350 lbs. with assistance;
- Must be able to withstand frequent repetitive movement, stooping, crouching, kneeling, climbing, and sitting;
- Must be able to wear protective clothing as required;
- Must be able to identify color-coded labels;
- Must meet Occupational Demands/Physical Requirement checklist.
Employees can expect to be paid a union wage of $50.36 per hour. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicants location, market data/ranges, an applicants skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
