Welder Jobs in Connecticut
A Welder in the maintenance and installation industry is responsible for performing various welding tasks to repair, install, and maintain metal structures and equipment. They use different techniques like MIG, TIG, and stick welding to join metal parts together, ensuring that they fit accurately according to the design specifications. Welders also inspect structures or materials to determine any potential faults, repair worn-out parts, and test welded surfaces for any flaws. They need to follow safety rules and regulations, maintain a clean work environment and may also be required to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
Important skills for a Welder include manual dexterity, attention to detail, ability to use hand and power tools, good eyesight, physical stamina, and knowledge of metallurgy and welding techniques. They should also have good understanding of safety procedures and regulations. As for certifications, many employers require a high school diploma or equivalent, and Welders usually need to complete a welding training program. Obtaining a certificate or associate's degree in welding technology, or a certification from a recognized body such as the American Welding Society, can significantly enhance their job prospects. Prior to becoming a Welder, a person might have roles as a Welder's Helper, Machinist, or Construction Laborer.
