Summary
The Shop Maintenance Manager is directly responsible for providing overallleadership to the maintenance shop. They are responsible for the strategicplanning, organizing, leading, and controlling of all onsite maintenance relatedfunctions. The Shop Maintenance Manager will supervise and coordinate theactivities of the maintenance shop by guiding safety and environmental, quality,efficiency, and productivity improvement efforts. Additional responsibilitiesinclude facility and grounds oversight, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, andensuring proper training of technicians.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or 5-7years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of educationand experience in the industry.Firm understanding of the transportation industry with a strong workingknowledge of diesel maintenance and repair principles.3 or more years of supervisory experience required.Strong employee performance management, training and coaching, recognition,and reward skills required.Thorough understanding of OSHA general shop safety / Haz-Mat regulations.Thorough understanding of planned and unplanned maintenance, repair, andbody shop processes.Experience with the tools of the trade to maintain and service equipmentsuch as diagnostic procedures, technical support, and reliability improvement.Working knowledge of capital management.Knowledge of how accounts receivables, accounts payable, and inventoryaffect the cycle as well as the techniques for improving working capital and themetrics that can be used to monitor performance.Ability to perform effectively under guidance/limited assistance fromfunctional leadership.Strong interpersonal skills; able to establish trust and rapport with alllevels of staff. Able to relate effectively to diverse cultures.Outstanding coordination, facilitation, consultation, and conflictresolution skills.Able to foster a culture of transparency and a sense of purpose among theteam and create clear accountabilities and metrics using positive andcollaborative methods.Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritizeworkload in a fast-paced environment.Strong planning and problem-solving skills; able to identify and resolveproblems promptly.Able to gather and analyze information and develop alternative solutions.Excellent communication skills (written, listening, and verbal).Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.Willing and able to travel occasionally, including overnight travel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Effectively lead daily shop operations for planned and unplannedmaintenance, repairs, and body shop services on a vast variety of dieseltractors and trailers.Effectively manage equipment logistics including the use of materials,equipment, and employees ensuring safety, quality, and efficient operations.Directly and/or indirectly supervise, Shop Department Managers, ServiceLeaders and Technicians. Resolve most complex business problems for those on theteam.Conduct regular shop safety inspections, correcting discovered deficienciespromptly.Partner with Human Resources in the recruiting, interviewing, selection,onboarding, and training of new employees.Provide effective employee performance management utilizing SMART goals,timely and constructive feedback, coaching for improvement, and progressivediscipline.Ensure continued focus on the expansion and development of a cohesive shopservice customer support team/department.Effective management of department annual operating budget cost center, AP,and AR.Accountable for shop productivity and repair quality, partnering withService Leaders.Monitor the status of open Work Orders to ensure timely processing andposting. Address issues that impact the completion of the repair plan in theestimated time quoted.Monitor equipment out of service and escalate for resolution when needed.Participate in continuous improvement activities by reviewing, changing, andimproving processes in line with changing customer expectations/organizationalgoals.Resolve customer concerns related to maintenance; develop strongrelationships with key stakeholders through frequent and professionalcommunication.Ensure the volume of work produced meets company standards and ensurescustomer satisfaction.Identify trends and initiate changes/improvements necessary to achieve goalsand objectives while ensuring customer needs are met without interruption toservice levels.Collaborate with the diesel tech trainer to design and implement ongoingtraining for new and current employees; recommend development plan prioritiesand provide opportunities that enhance employee career growth.

Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $100,000 to$130,000. Base salary offered is determined by relevant experience,education, certifications, and geographic as compared to others doingsubstantially similar work.
