Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the maintenance department within a behavioral health hospital. This role ensures a safe, functional, and compliant environment for patients, staff, and visitors by supervising maintenance staff, coordinating repairs, and maintaining facility systems in accordance with healthcare regulations and safety standards.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Facility Operations & Maintenance
Oversee day-to-day maintenance operations, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general repairs
Ensure the hospital environment is safe, secure, and in good working condition
Perform and/or supervise routine inspections of building systems and equipment
Coordinate and prioritize work orders and maintenance requests
Maintain preventive maintenance schedules for all facility systems
Manage computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or work order tracking processes
Plan and oversee minor construction, renovation, and repair projects
Coordinate with contractors and vendors for specialized services
Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with all applicable healthcare, life safety, and building regulations (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA)
Maintain environment of care standards specific to behavioral health settings (e.g., ligature risk mitigation)
Conduct regular safety rounds and hazard assessments
Maintain documentation for inspections, repairs, and compliance audits
Respond promptly to safety issues and emergency situations
Equipment & Asset Management
Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies
Ensure proper operation and maintenance of hospital equipment and systems
Track and document asset maintenance history
Recommend replacement or upgrades of equipment as needed
Emergency Preparedness
Participate in hospital emergency preparedness planning and drills
Respond to facility-related emergencies (e.g., power outages, water leaks, equipment failures)
Ensure emergency systems (generators, fire alarms, etc.) are tested and maintained
Support disaster response and recovery efforts
Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to ensuring the agency is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and/or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism. Assists other employees in the work unit in accomplishing assignments as necessary.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required
3-5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in healthcare or behavioral health
Prior supervisory or leadership experience required
Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance systems
Familiarity with healthcare regulations and environment of care standards
Ability to identify and mitigate ligature and safety risks in behavioral health settings
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to urgent situations
Basic computer skills and experience with CMMS systems preferred
Unrestricted Driver's License
Preferred Requirements:
Technical or trade school preferred
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
Must be able to pass a background check prior to employment.
