Summary:
Facilities Planning and Management seeks a dynamic, experienced leader to provide leadership and direction for a Facilities Services team. This pivotal role involves managing the daily operations of facilities maintenance, grounds, and custodial services and personnel. This position requires a strategic approach to assigning and prioritizing work, scheduling staff, and establishing quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong leadership track record and proven experience in all phases of project management with a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with partners across an organization.
Example of Duties:
- Assists with the management and daily operations of maintenance, grounds care, and custodial activities by providing leadership and development to students and staff.
- Establishes, updates, and reviews department policies and procedures to assure compliance with university, state, and federal regulations.
- Provides technical service to solve complex maintenance problems.
- Markets building maintenance department services and acts as a liaison for the department with various units, including internal and external customers.
- Evaluates and optimizes functional operations, processes, and procedures.
- Ensures operational consistency, compliance, and effective workflow management across facilities services.
- Oversees building maintenance budget and inventory, ensuring the availability of supplies, tools, and equipment needed to complete maintenance work.
- Participates in short and long-term strategic planning.
- Ensures compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and applicable federal, state, and local rules.
- Implements and refines emergency response plans for facilities-related incidents, responsible for adhering to IOSHA regulations and compliance.
- Manages customer relationships by identifying needs, advising on services, and soliciting feedback.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience in facilities management or a closely related field, with a strong emphasis on maintenance, campus services, and custodial operations management.
Advanced knowledge of regulatory management, particularly involving IOSHA regulations, safety regulations, building codes, and compliance with federal, state, and local rules.
Leadership experience in personnel management, including improving communication, facilitating opportunities for employee development, and conducting performance reviews.
Knowledge of operational processes and procedures related to service requests, work orders, and service delivery.
Experience with managing and overseeing maintenance budget.

The term "facilities" refers to all the buildings, grounds, walks, drives, parking lots, and utility systems belonging to ISU, which means our staff covers nearly every facet of campus.
