Job Title: Fabrication Technician II Aerospace

Job Description

The Fabrication Technician II uses hand, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools to fabricate precision aerospace parts in a machine shop environment. This role focuses on cutting, forming, bending, and straightening metal to meet strict customer specifications while following detailed work instructions and safety guidelines. The technician inspects parts for conformance, reads and interprets manufacturing drawings, and supports efficient production by recognizing and resolving minor issues on the shop floor.

Responsibilities

  • Use hand, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools to fabricate aerospace parts according to specifications.

  • Cut, form, bend, and straighten metal using hammers, saws, grinders, and related equipment to meet customer requirements.

  • Operate fabrication equipment such as shrinker/stretchers, arbor presses, stretch form machines, routers, shears, brake presses, and hot joggle machines after setup is complete.

  • Follow work instructions and assisted setup procedures as required to ensure accurate and efficient production.

  • Thoroughly inspect the first part run to confirm conformance to specifications before continuing production.

  • Run parts after the job has been bought off and approved for production.

  • Meet established job standard times while maintaining quality and accuracy.

  • Recognize production problems and assist in resolving issues to keep parts within tolerance.

  • Make minor adjustments to equipment and processes to maintain part quality and adherence to tolerances.

  • Verify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications using standard measuring tools such as calipers, protractors, and scales.

  • Read and interpret manufacturing drawings and blueprints to understand part requirements and fabrication steps.

  • Follow all safety guidelines, including the proper use of safety equipment and adherence to relevant safety procedures.

  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding production status, issues, and quality concerns.

  • Perform general mechanical and assembly tasks as needed, including basic mechanical, electrical, and electronic assembly work.

  • Complete other duties as assigned to support production and overall shop operations.

Essential Skills

  • One year of on-the-job experience in fabrication, machine shop, or a closely related mechanical role.

  • Ability to properly use basic measuring tools, including calipers and protractors, to verify part dimensions.

  • Ability to properly use hand working tools such as hammers, squares, scales, and similar equipment.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and blueprints.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with team members and supervisors.

  • Mechanical aptitude and good manual dexterity for precise fabrication and assembly work.

  • Demonstrated strong skills and aptitude in basic math to support measurements and calculations.

  • Ability to perform basic functions with MS Windows-based computer operating systems, such as opening and closing files.

  • Successful completion of an aptitude test during the interview process.

  • Consistent reliability, including arriving on time for the start of shift and demonstrating a positive attitude toward work.

  • Commitment to following all safety guidelines and procedures in a machine shop environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in an aerospace fabrication or machine shop environment.

  • Hands-on experience with hand and power tools, including grinders, saws, and other fabrication tools.

  • Expereince in mechanical assembly, electrical assembly, or electronic assembly.

  • Experience in production or assembly line environments.

  • Ability to use a tape measure and other common shop measurement tools accurately.

  • General labor experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting.

  • Strong mechanical inclination and comfort working with machinery and fabrication equipment.

  • Ability to recognize production problems and contribute to process improvements.

Work Environment

The role is based in a machine shop that manufactures structural parts for the aerospace industry. The environment involves working with metal fabrication equipment such as shrinker/stretchers, arbor presses, stretch form machines, routers, shears, brake presses, hot joggle machines, and various hand and power tools including grinders and saws. Employees regularly use standard measuring tools like calipers, protractors, squares, scales, and tape measures, and operate basic MS Windows-based computer systems for file access and work instructions. The shop follows established safety guidelines and requires consistent use of appropriate safety equipment. The work is hands-on, production-focused, and detail-oriented, with an emphasis on precision, quality, and adherence to aerospace standards.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Arlington, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
