Position

The Site Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective maintenance of site vehicles, mobile equipment, and support equipment at the TS Power Plant. This position performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, inspections, and documentation to support plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

Safety and Compliance

  • Perform all work in accordance with NGM safety policies, Journey to Zero expectations, site procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Identify and control hazards related to vehicle and equipment maintenance, including stored energy, hydraulics, suspended loads, hot work, mobile equipment interaction, pinch points, and spills.

  • Complete required risk assessments, permits, inspections, LOTO/tryout, and work documentation.

  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas, shop spaces, tools, service vehicles, and parts storage areas.

Preventative Maintenance and Inspections

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, lubrication, fluid and filter changes, adjustments, and condition checks.

  • Maintain site equipment including F-150s, transit vans, side-by-sides, Kenworth water truck, CAT D9 dozer, CAT 980 loader, 30-ton haul truck, skid steer, backhoe, man lifts, generators, trailers, and other support equipment.

  • Inspect brakes, steering, suspension, driveline, tires, tracks, hydraulics, electrical systems, cooling systems, fuel systems, attachments, and safety devices.

  • Identify equipment deficiencies and initiate corrective work to prevent failures and reduce downtime.

Troubleshooting and Repairs

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, fuel, cooling, brake, steering, suspension, driveline, and undercarriage issues.

  • Troubleshoot diesel and gasoline engines, emissions systems, starting and charging systems, lighting, sensors, controls, and related circuits.

  • Perform repairs ranging from routine service to major component replacement, including engines, transmissions, differentials, pumps, hoses, hydraulic cylinders, brakes, wheel ends, tracks, and attachments.

  • Support breakdown response and urgent repairs to maintain equipment availability and plant support capability.

Reliability and Work Management

  • Identify recurring failures and recommend practical corrective actions to improve safety, reliability, and maintainability.

  • Communicate equipment condition, repair priorities, parts needs, and estimated downtime to supervision, planning, warehouse, and operations.

  • Support maintenance planning by identifying required parts, tooling, labor, vendor support, and equipment availability needs.

  • Accurately document labor, parts, findings, inspections, repairs, and equipment condition in SAP or the applicable maintenance management system.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma,or equivalent.

  • Experience maintaining and repairing light vehicles, diesel equipment, heavy equipment, or mobile fleet equipment.

  • Working knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, brakes, steering, suspension, drivetrains, and preventative maintenance practices.

  • Ability to read service manuals, schematics, parts diagrams, work orders, and maintenance procedures.

  • Ability to safely use shop tools, diagnostic equipment, meters, gauges, lifting equipment, and maintenance tooling.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to work safely around plant operations, mobile equipment, energized areas, rotating equipment, and industrial hazards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, fleet mechanic, diesel mechanic, or industrial mechanic.

  • Experience with CAT equipment, Ford fleet vehicles, utility vehicles.

  • Experience using SAP or another computerized maintenance management system.

  • OSHA, forklift, man lift, crane/rigging, mobile equipment

  • Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in maintenance shops, plant areas, coal yard, outdoor equipment areas.

  • May work around coal dust, ash, mud, snow, heat, cold, noise, moving equipment, uneven ground, and adverse weather.

  • Must be able to lift, climb, kneel, crawl, bend, reach, and perform physically demanding maintenance tasks.

  • May be required to support breakdowns, outages, and changing plant priorities. Required PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, safety boots, hearing protection, FR/AR clothing where required, and task-specific PPE.

The Site Vehicle Mechanic supports the safe and reliable operation of the TS Power Plant by maintaining and repairing the vehicles, heavy equipment, and support equipment required for daily operations, outage support, coal handling, and site maintenance.
