In 2020, the City of Fruita updated the 10 year comprehensive plan, Fruita in Motion. The plan is a vision for the future and a blueprint for change, particularly as it relates both to the physical growth of the City’s buildings, streets, and infrastructure and to the retention and enhancement of quality of life elements. It serves as a fundamental part of the City’s decision-making processes, providing inspiration for a broad range of City actions. To learn about Fruita’s guiding documents, visit fruita.org/strategicplan. Through the plan, community values emerged from public input.
Here are few of the top community values:
- Fruita is a place where children, adults, and the elderly feel safe walking and biking to schools, parks, or downtown.
- Fruita is a community where people are invested and constantly working to make the community better.
The City of Fruita is a Home-Rule City with a Council-Manager form of government. The elected City Councilmembers and Mayor make policy decisions and enact legislation, while the City Manager carries out the Council’s policies and administers the daily operations of City government. The Fruita City Council has seven members—the Mayor and six City Council members. All positions, including the Mayor, are elected at large by the qualified voters of the city. The Mayor is elected to a twoyear term while councilmembers are elected to serve a four-year term. Fruita City Council meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month in the Council Chambers at 7 p.m. and a regularly scheduled workshop is held at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month. These meetings are open to the public and are held at the Fruita Civic Center located at 325 E. Aspen, Fruita, CO in the 2nd floor Council Chambers. Council Agendas are posted at the Civic Center and online at Fruita.org prior to each meeting.
