JOB SUMMARY
A semi-skilled position responsible for advanced manual work in the performance of maintenance activities. May operate a variety of power and hand tools to complete maintenance activities. Responsible for maintenance of roads, buildings, and grounds.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The duties and responsibilities in this job description are illustrative only and are not meant to be all-inclusive. Job responsibilities also include any other duties as assigned by the City. The City reserves the right to vary, add to, eliminate, or otherwise modify the job duties set forth in this description at any time and for any reason.
Operates and maintain light duty equipment in the Public Works fleet such as a dump truck, broom tractor and flail mower
Operates and maintains gasoline powered equipment such as concrete mixers, air hammers, compressors, generators, pumps and saws
Washes, cleans, and provides minor maintenance of equipment
Performs manual labor tasks as assigned
May be required to operate heavier equipment on a temporary, emergency or trainee basis
Assists Crew Leader in training new employees on proper use and maintenance of tools, specifically focusing on safety when using said equipment
May keep basic records, such as time, equipment use, materials used, etc.
Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Requires High School graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Two (2) years' experience in performing manual labor, preferably with a background in Public Works.
Licenses or Certifications:
Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License and a good driving record.
Special Requirements:
Employee may be required to obtain a Florida Commercial Driver's License, Class A or B as a condition of continued employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of environmental hazards associated with Public Works projects
Ability to learn methods of operating and maintaining equipment and tools
Ability to follow and understand written and oral instructions
Familiarity with the use of common hand and power tools
Ability to deal effectively with the public
Ability to perform labor-intensive work assignments
Ability to operate a copying machine
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Upon request, reasonable accommodations will be made in accordance with applicable law.
Sufficient physical strength, agility and freedom from disabling defects to perform heavy manual labor
Heavy (over 45 pounds) lifting and carrying
Good vision (with or without correction)
Good hearing (with or without hearing aid)
Moderate to frequent: reaching; climbing; pushing; walking; standing; kneeling; bending; and stooping
Driving and operating equipment used in grounds maintenance
Good hand, eye and foot coordination
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works outside in various weather conditions including high temperatures and inclement weather. Works with moving equipment and vehicles. Works at heights up to 30 feet and below ground level in trenches and confined spaces.
Positions may be considered disaster-essential as determined by the City.
Must be Authorized to work in the UNITED STATES.
