Rail Maintenance Worker (Transportation and Public Works )

Minimum Qualifications

The MDTA classification of Rail Maintenance Worker performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to the provisions of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Drug and Alcohol Regulations. This position is a 13(c) protected classification, and preference will be given to applicants represented by TWU based on seniority.

Recruitment Notes

This is heavy manual work involving skills in various maintenance and construction tasks in a public transportation system. Employees perform labor tasks requiring acquired skills in the use of air tools, hydraulic tools, gasoline-powered tools and other construction and maintenance related equipment. Responsibilities include general maintenance work on tracks, structures and in the right-of-way, cleaning functions, and assisting in the installation and repair of equipment and facilities. Tasks are performed with some independence and more difficult work is performed under the supervision of a skilled technician or supervisor. Work is reviewed in progress and upon completion for satisfactory performance of assigned tasks and duties.
